The Rench Valley

The Rench Valley is located between the Rhine plain on one side and Germanys oldest panoramic road the “Schwarzwaldhochstraße” on the other side.

Our region is famous for its huge variety of culinary delights. Whether our starred chefs or our “nature-park-hosts” – our first-class restaurants serve a mixture of specialties of the tradition-rich Baden cuisine and the related Alsatian cuisine.Nationwide rewarded wines as well as schnapps and liqueurs from over 1,300 distilleries are among the finest products of the region. Equal in terms of quality are the fresh products which come directly from the growers and which are, in some cases, sold by one of the largest fruit producers’ cooperative of Germany.

Actively relax

Sport and recreation in the Rench Valley’s leisure landscape – it’s here that there’s something on offer for everyone’s taste: well-signposted cycling and mountain bike trails and possibly one of the only take-off sites in Germany’s Central Uplands for paragliding, where starts can be made no matter what the direction of the wind is. Actively relax with a bike ride through roads lined with fruit trees, past strawberry fields and into the Rhine Valley, or try Nordic walking, angling, golf or skiing. In summer, the heated open-air pools will ensure you can cool off.

Renchtal - a hiker's dream

Whether you want to take a leisurely stroll through the idyllic vineyards or take a mountain tour up to the heights of the Black Forest – in the Rench Valley there is something for every hiking type! The castle ruins of Schauenburg and the ruins of the Allerheiligen monastery with its 83 meter high natural waterfalls, the perfectly situated observation towers on the Buchkopf, the Moos and Geigerskopf mountains, are all interesting places for an excursion! The long-distance hiking trails, such as the Renchtalsteig, Westweg, Ortenau-wine trail and the Kandel high trail, are also waiting to be discovered.

Black Forest National Park

“Allerheiligen” waterfalls, situated within the boundaries of the village of Oppenau, nestle in an idyllic scenery on the heart of the Black Forest National Park, being therefore an ideal starting point for unforgettable tours through the unspoiled nature of the National Park, which was established according to the motto: “Let nature evolve naturally”. So the woodlands will eventually reassume their original pristine state and become home to many rare and endangered species. Discover the natural and the wild side of the Rench Valley!

Culture and History

The Rench Valley is a cultural region with many traditions and historic sights: the ruins of the Schauenburg castle, the pilgrimage church “Mariä Krönung”, the ruins of the monastery “Allerheiligen” or the historic town centers of Oberkirch and Oppenau bear witness to a vivid history. Visitors are also fascinated by the waterfalls of “Allerheiligen”. Our region offers plenty of culture for everyone like theatre, concerts, cabarets, events and fairs of all kind. Moreover, several artists and famous writers have their origin in the Rench Valley.


Festive occasions have a long tradition in the Rench Valley. Every year visitors from near and far are attracted by numerous big events, their unique atmosphere and their culinary delights. Furthermore a large number of smaller events and festivals of local societies take place.
